GHB
GHB - GBL, GBH, Grievous Bodily Harm, Gina, G, liquid ecstasy
Effects:
- High after 20 minutes, lasting 1 to 4 hours
- Feeling horny or mildly high
- dizziness or drowsiness
- vomiting, which can lead to choking if you're knocked out and then death
- seizures, coma
With other drugs:
- Depressants (downers) e.g. alcohol, tranquilisers, ketamine or antihistamines (anti-allergy meds): together can dangerously reduce your breathing and make you unconscious (so called 'G sleep'), lead to a fit, coma or death, even if alcohol has not been drunk for a few hours.
- HIV drugs: can cause dangerously high levels of GHB and increase your risk of collapse.
Sex on GHB:
- It can make you more relaxed and help taking things up the arse.
- Although it is said to make you horny, it is also harder to come.
- By lowering your inhibitions, unsafe sex is more likely, increasing the risk of HIV or other infections.
Staying safe:
- It's a fine line between the amount that gets you high and the amount that knocks you out.
- It's easy to overdose, with little warning, often if taking a second dose before the first has taken effect, the drug is stronger than expected or when drinking alcohol too.
- Don't let someone go into G sleep or they may not wake up. Keep them awake and moving until it wears off or medical help arrives.
- If someone is knocked out turn them on their side, not their back, so they don't choke on their vomit. Get medical help immediately - it'll cause you less hassle than if your friend dies.
- Avoid GHB if you have blood pressure problems, epilepsy, convulsions or heart or breathing problems.
- Don't take your eye off your drink and avoid accepting drinks from strangers, as it's very difficult or impossible to detect and is sometimes used for date rape.
